Corneel Maes joins Hill+Knowlton Strategies to elevate its integrated offering

Hill+Knowlton Strategies is pleased to announce that Corneel Maes joined its Brussels office as Executive Strategy Director, Corporate Affairs on November 3rd. This move fits with the consultancy’s aim to supplement its extensive expertise with a focus on significant strategic initiatives. Corneel Maes will further strengthen H+K’s leadership in integrated communications and public affairs services.
Corneel Maes is an experienced corporate communications practitioner who will advise H+K Strategies’ clients across the portfolio. He has significant in-house and consultancy experience and has spent much of his career developing CEO advisory work at the interface between public affairs and corporate communications.
Corneel will support the H+K teams working with Belgium-based corporations to integrate public affairs and corporate communications components into the consultancy’s client offer.  His longstanding agency experience will also be helpful in coaching and developing H+K’s people as the consultancy continues to innovate its integrated offering.  Corneel Maes confirms: “Clients no longer ask for transactional media calls. They need a sparring partner providing sound advice. They want an integrated team of experts at their table who understand how to create relevant content and publish it in these channels where they know stakeholders will pick it up.”
Prior to joining H+K Strategies, Corneel spent 10 years with Porter Novelli, where he worked mainly in the field of corporate affairs, reputation management and crisis preparedness. Between 1986 and 2000 he held international banking positions at BNP Paribas Fortis where he also served as corporate spokesperson. He advised the Executive Committee of Ageas (the former Fortis Group) on reputation matters. In 2000 Corneel guided AB InBev through the extensive media attention around its IPO as VP Corporate Communication and corporate spokesman. He advised the company’s Board of Directors and Executive Management in the transition from a privately-owned business to a listed company and was the driver behind the company’s reputation-building and issues management strategy during an intensive four year acquisition program.
Hill+Knowlton Strategies’ CEO, Thomas Tindemans, welcomes the new Executive Strategy Director: “Corneel brings deep local expertise combined with an international perspective, exceptional insight and a hands-on approach to the Brussels office for the benefit of our clients in Belgium and worldwide. Corneel strengthens the team in line with H+K’s ambition to be the best in the local market while offering an unrivaled global network.”
