In his role as Strategy Director with Hill+Knowlton’s Digital Communications group, Brendan provides strategic counsel and project leadership on all facets of digital PR and social media activation, including corporate and public affairs, online advocacy, crisis and issues management, stakeholder relations, and social marketing. His value is his ability to develop effective online strategies that integrate with traditional communications and public affairs methodologies.
Brendan’s 12 years experience in digital PR and public affairs, community building, employee engagement, and online issues and reputation management encompasses a variety of sectors and issues, including campaigns for clients in the aerospace, technology, not-for-profit, government and energy sectors. Brendan is also responsible for developing H+K’s global online crisis capabilities. His extensive experience in public relations and crisis communications (15 years) and digital communications (10 years) has resulted in the creation of a uniquely relevant, pragmatic, and hype-free offering that includes crisis preparedness training, online influencer analysis, ‘dark site’ development, detractor engagement protocols, audits of existing crisis programs, social media activation, and online reputation recovery.
His clients include leading corporationsfrom across a variety of sectors as well as numerous public and not-for-profit organizations. Specific assignments include website re-design strategies, social media preparedness strategies, online advocacy, online crisis and issues management, online reputation audits, employee engagement programs, influencer outreach and online consultations. Energy-specific clients for whom he has worked include Petro-Canada (Suncor), Bruce Power, Saudi Aramco, Nexen, Nuclear Energy Institute, America’s Natural Gas Alliance, and Enbridge.
In addition to his client work, Brendan facilitates social media and digital PR education and training seminars designed to help senior managers and communications teams better understand the risks and opportunities presented by emerging social media technologies. He has been invited to present to senior management teams and Boards of Directors, and he speaks regularly on the topic of corporate reputation and social media.
